Google Earth new focus on Water

Today’s big news is that Google Earth, that’s that cool map feature that allows you to see photos of places, is now doing more with the non-dirt part of the Earth. Given that the planet is mostly water, it makes sense.

Although what’s going on UNDER the water might not help sell your place, but if you you’re lucky enough to live on one of Minnesota’s 10,000+ lakes, why not emphasize that with a link to a Google map from your listing?

Also if your looking to buy on water, it’s a good way to get a handle of the SIZE of lake the property is on. (Sometimes I find that Minnesotans are a little generous about what they call a lake vs. what other people would call a pond.) And did you know that when you select the “MORE” option on your map, Google will pop out photos, videos and even Wikipedia stories about your area? Cool, huh?

The above map is where I live. When you look at a regular map,  it shows that I live on a skinny strip of land surrounded by flat map blue. But pop that same address into Google and then click ” satellite” on the map and the difference is dramatic. And we could all use a little drama in our lives.

(And just for clarification, this place isn’t really for sale.)
